Datacenters use a ton of power, and “how much power” is a number that gets larger everyday. But it’s not just the power that’s holding things back. Cooling, water consumption, and even land use are all major factors for modern datacenters to solve, and Panthalassa is an Oregon-company that might have just figured out how to make it all work, and their solution is fully renewable.
Panthalassa is developing a solid-state wave generator, capable of up to 1MW of energy production. But as part of these generators, they’re also going to integrate datacenters that will literally float out at sea. Infinite cooling capabilities, unlimited free energy, no land use. Check out their development over at https://panthalassa.com, or this documentary to learn more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7Pmgq2JKbI
The most unexpected moment of our trip came with meeting Alembic.com founder and CEO Tomás Puig, who graciously offered us a tour of their server room in San Jose. Not only that, they let me bring my cameras. Alembic themselves are a marketing analytics firm, and you can learn more about them at https://alembic.com. Thanks again for your hospitality.
