The X79 Microcloud Project has been a huge success, with all of my VMs and Backups currently running on the 13 year old cluster. But X79 isn’t the only architecture for this chassis. Supermicro also made an X99 (Intel C612) Node, as well as a Xeon D Embedded node, with a Xeon D-1541. What features are available on these newer nodes, and did I make a huge mistake buying into such an old architecture?
But first… What am I drinking???
